So... [The thought of wearing the blindfold is an automatic no right now.] What happens if you don't?

[ The silence has Hinata fidgeting, and he'd prefer at least being able to see Kageyama's face to try and decipher what he's feeling.

Maybe we could get a volleyball? [It's so tempting]

[ He's so excited at even the thought that it takes him a while to realize Kageyama's asked more questions. ]

[ Ah, he hadn't been expecting such a quick response, so his tone is coloured with confusion. ]

If you're using it while doing stuff then you'll just be at home with someone you trust, right? It's not that bad.

[He shakes his head before he realizes they're not on video chat.]

[ They're not accusing questions, and Hinata's voice is simply gently curious. He wants to know is all. ]

[It's hard to lie, and it's worse trying to lie to Hinata.]

[That's a little more than he'd usually say, but all true.]

[ There's a pause, the briefest of silences, and then he speaks up again. ]

Okay. Then we won't use it.

[ Simple as that. Hinata doesn't want him to be uncomfortable, doesn't want to force him into anything especially when he doesn't even know if he wants to do it himself. He doesn't fully understand the situation but... He knows this is the right thing to do. ]

If you want me to wear it I don't mind trying.

[While it's true Hinata closes his eyes when he spikes, Kageyama wasn't really expecting that trust to extend off the court. He's startled into silence for a little longer than Hinata.]

Are you sure? You don't have to either.

[If Hinata's taking his feelings into consideration, he'll do the same. He's not a huge fan of forcing the issue when it comes to this.]

[ Hinata kind of bites back calling him stupid, because this doesn't seem like the right moment and sometimes he's perceptive. ]

[ His voice softens, but the sincerity is still there loud and clear. ]

[He's suddenly incredibly glad they aren't on video.]

[That's his old team, not Karasuno. But he figures he should still throw it out there. There's nothing requiring teammates to trust each other as much as Hinata trusts in him.]

[ Well, just that he doesn't expect those words, and they're confusing to Hinata. He doesn't get why the other would say something like that at all. ]

[Or at least, he thinks he is.]

[that middle school trauma of being left on the court hasn't quite left him yet.]

[ Hmm. He'll leave it at that, believing Kageyama absolutely. ]

[ His face scrunches up a little, lips pulling down in a pout at the insult, but it at least make him focus very intently on Kageyama's voice.

As it always seems to do.

Oh. Well, Hinata hadn't been expecting a peptalk, not at all, and he's glad the other isn't here because he's covering his face with his hand to hide a smile from no one. ]

You're going to do that even though what I want to do in the end is beat you? [ There's a pause of uncertainty. ] You could find someone better than me.

[Hold up for a second, he's staring at his phone in silent disbelief. Didn't Hinata hear anything he just said?]

[ There's the telltale sound of him huffing, but then he grows quiet. Unusually so, probably. ]

I'm not going back on that, I don't go back on what I say. We're still going to be standing on the court together, and we'll be the best in the world.

[ Oh god, why is he getting teary-eyed? It's a time where Hinata wishes he wasn't so emotional, but he manages a laugh even as he scrubs at his eyes. ]

You better keep your promise, Kageyama.

Stop being an idiot and I'll stop calling you one.

[The longer that silence goes, the more concerned Kageyama gets. And then, thankfully, Hinata talks.]

That's what I've been saying.

[And how many times does he have to say it before it sinks in for good. They're rivals but they're the kind of rivals that keep pushing each other to do better.]

I'm not going back on it either.
